Progressive Health Care Through Traditional Medicine
Naturopathic doctors offer primary health care, including the ability to assess, diagnose and treat illness and disease. We use diagnostic and laboratory medicine to aid in the assessment of a person's health concerns. A person may choose to have a naturopathic doctor as their sole health care provider and there may be no need for additional providers. However, a person may either want another healthcare provider or an additional health care provider is required to provide optimum care. In either case, naturopathic doctors can be a valuable part of your health care team, providing insight, new considerations and alternative treatment options. Many treatment plans are designed to be comprehensive and require no other treatments, while other plans are best combined with medications and standard medical care. We believe that in order to provide optimum health care, there should be a team approach between your family physician, other health care providers and your naturopathic doctor. The naturopathic treatments recommended may be combined with your current prescription drugs or they may be used in the absence of prescriptions, all of which should be discussed in order to ensure quality care and no conflicts between prescription drugs and naturopathic treatments.
The initial visit is approximately 1-1 ½ hours in duration, and includes a physical exam, urine test, and discussion of your health concerns. A follow-up visit will be scheduled for ½ hour in duration and is focused on discussing and explaining treatment recommendations and protocols (dietary, lifestyle, specific protocols). Time will be spent between the first visit and the follow-up visit to review your concerns and physical exam findings, research treatment plans, consult colleagues and consider the whole picture of your current health before making recommendations.
Additional in-office treatments such as massage or acupuncture are scheduled for ½ hour time allotments. Recommendations may be made for protocols that require the purchase of products (for instance tinctures or supplements), often these products are available at the clinic and are discounted compared to most retailers, however, there is no pressure to buy from the dispensary and you are free to search other stores to buy these items. Furthermore some of these products may not be available anywhere else in the city so they are available at the clinic. Additionally, some items may need to be specially ordered or may be requested by you, which takes additional time. If you are having a difficult time finding a product or if you would like a product ordered, we will be happy to research and order any product you request. Everyone is different in the way they present with symptoms and also in the way they respond to treatment, therefore care will be taken to ensure that the progress being made is focused and that improvements are being made, and if needed, adjustments may be required to existing protocols to meet health goals.
